Curator Callout!

Hi All,

Are you a curator or know a curator that would be interested in overseeing the 2021 Heysen Sculpture Biennial?

About the Exhibition

The Heysen Sculpture Biennial (HSB) is an outdoor sculpture exhibition organised by an all-volunteer committee. It takes place during the Festival Season of South Australia and runs for approximately 10 weeks, from mid-February to late-April/early May.

The Heysen Sculpture Biennial began in 2000 as an initiative of Adelaide Hills artist Helen Lyons with only a dozen works situated on the grounds of The Cedars. Lyons was the founder of Trees Please, the environmental group responsible for the continuing rehabilitation of the tracts of bushland within The Cedars. In keeping with Lyons’ vision for the exhibition, the organising committee would like to maintain an environmental focus for the exhibition.

The Biennial has traditionally been held at The Cedars in Hahndorf but due to upcoming building works on the site, the 2021 Biennial will be moving to an exciting new location, providing an opportunity for a different and unique approach to its curation. The final location will be announced early 2020.

Who Are We Looking for?

We are looking for an inspired Curator or Emerging Curator who will develop a theme for the 2021 Biennial that corresponds with the HSB’s environmental stance of preserving and protecting the environment. The successful applicant will work alongside the HSB organising committee to facilitate the 2021 Heysen Sculpture Biennial Exhibition. This includes overseeing and shortlisting artist EOIs, site selection for sculptures, attending relevant committee meetings, participating in the opening of the exhibition and writing an essay for the catalogue. Compensation will be negotiated with the successful applicant.

If you are interested please email a short CV and a brief statement of relevant experience indicating your suitability for the position together with the names and contact details for two referees by February 15th to David Kerr on davidkerr@internode.on.net.

For questions or further information please contact David on davidkerr@internode.on.net or 0478 295 182.
