In Memory of Pamela Kouwenhoven

March 31, 2014

It is with great sadness that we announce the untimely death from cancer of fellow Heysen Sculpture Biennial committee member, and highly regarded South Australian artist, Pamela Kouwenhoven. Pam was a dedicated and energetic committee member and one of the original Biennial exhibitors.

Pam showed widely here and interstate winning many awards and strong critical acclaim. Her practice utilised unconventional materials and impoverished discards. Her work is represented in the collection of the Art Gallery of South Australia, and in 2012 she was selected to participate in a hugely popular exhibition of Australian contemporary art in San Sebastian, Spain.

In spite of her terminal illness, in Pam’s last weeks she had work in three different venues: Light Square Gallery and Marshall Arts Adelaide, as well as The Cedars, home of the Heysen Sculpture Biennial. Pam lived for her art and her art lives on.

The committee mourns the loss of Pam and extends its sympathy to her family.
